June 2012 Newsletter - Until Sally returns to update our blog, I'm posting this here!

Presidency Message
We all need a spiritual "plug in"--even every day. Time to ponder. Time to reflect on our life's path and our relationships--even our relationship with Jesus Christ. Was he really the son of God as he professed or simply a highly developed spiritual leader? "What think ye of Christ?" I believe Christ is the son of God and that he is our Savior, not just a notable spiritual leader who taught good principles.  And I am thankful for his atonement.  But how do I further this conviction and why do I want too?  Because I find real inner peace and help at my disposal to work through life’s challenges when I fortify my testimony of Jesus Christ--his gospel and the healing power of his atonement.

So back to how do I strengthen my conviction?  We make the gospel our core foundation.  Elder Hallstrom in his April Conference address “Converted to His Gospel through His Church” suggests 3 “fundamental ways to have the gospel be our foundation”:

1.      We must “deepen our understanding of Deity” and “mindfully pray to the Father, in the name of the Son, and seek direction from the Holy Ghost.”  And then combine “prayer with constant study and humble pondering to continually build unshakable faith in Jesus Christ.”

2.  “Focus on ordinances and covenants”-- like partaking in the weekly “gift of the sacrament” and having reverence for its cleansing power.

3.  “Unite the gospel with the Church”-- which means to let the church function as the facilitator and accelerator to Christ’s gospel teachings by coming to church “prepared to ‘seek learning, even by study and also by faith’” (D&C 88:118).

It’s my hope that we will all nurture our faith and harness real inner peace by strengthening our convictions and partaking of the healing power of Jesus Christ’s gospel and atonement.

Love,  Sister Christy Bernat
